Metallurgy & Engineered Contact Material Systems

Powder Blended, Cast, Formed and Sintered Electrical Materials for Contacts, Strip, and Infiltrate AssembliesChecon’s metallurgy capabilities deliver engineered material systems that directly influence electrical contact performance and reliability. Our in-house material development and processing — from powder metallurgy to cast precious metal and refractory alloys — are tailored to support electrical contacts, contact assemblies, and bus bars with integrated electrical contacts used in industrial control and power distribution systems.

how we work

Materials and Process Capabilities

Our material development programs and in-house electrical test capabilities ensure that we supply the most economical and highest-performing material for our customers’ specific applications.

Cast Materials
Checon’s cast precious metal alloys are engineered to support electrical contact performance by balancing conductivity, mechanical stability, and reliability for high-duty switching applications. We manufactures cost-effective cast materials, including fine silver, fine-grain silver, coin silver, and internally oxidized silver cadmium (in a one-sided version).

Powder Metallurgy
Powder metallurgy enables fine microstructure control and predictable electrical behavior in contact materials critical to reliable electrical switching. Checon offers a complete range of powder metal products, including powder compacted, sintered, and extruded materials such as silver tin oxide, silver cadmium oxide, silver nickel, and silver graphite, as well as Checon’s unique co-compacted “B” line of products that form a silver-backed material that is simultaneously compacted with these same materials.

Pressed, Compacted Tips
To complete our capabilities, Checon manufactures refractory and pressed contact tips for demanding electrical environments where arc resistance and durability are essential. We manufacture individually compacted tips made of silver tungsten, silver tungsten carbide, copper tungsten, and silver graphite.
